      <image:title>Blog - 4 Days on the Road - Allison Acres was amazing. In the morning, we took a walk to the blueberry fields, and picked berries! They had a few varieties ripening, one which blew us away called “Pink Lemonade.” They taste SOOO good! We filled a bucket with these and some regular blue ones, and now we have a bunch in our freezer to eat along the way. After breakfast, Tim flew his drone for a while, and took some video footage of the farm. They have 200+ acres of land! They also spoiled us with an outdoor shower and lots of amenities. We’d definitely go back there again!</image:title>

      <image:caption>Mantravis-what?? I’ve been getting together with some friends on Monday nights now for a few months. We’ve been sitting around playing instruments, making up interesting melodies, and sometimes chanting mantras. It’s been extremely fun, and I’m always amazed at the sounds and songs we produce. It’s nothing like what I do at kirtan! We’ve got drummers, flutes, a synthesizer, an electric bass, sometimes an electric guitar, sometimes a harp! It’s been a different combination of musicians each time, and every time it’s been an amazing experience for me. This week we were jamming, and we were saying “this should be a thing, people would love to come and experience this with us.” And I said, yeah, it’s a “mantravisation.” A mantra improvisation. Because we never know what we’re going to do until we’ve started doing it, and most of the time I end up chanting a mantra. Some of the time it’s chill and cool and slow. Other times, the tunes get funky and upbeat. It’s literally always different- a unique, one-of-a-kind experience. So, happy birthday to Mantravisation. It was officially born today, on 7/31/2023. I’ll let you know when we’re going to play out- I hope you’ll be as excited about it as I am!</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Yoga Asana (the yoga postures) are the perfect way to stretch, strengthen, and align your physical body. Often, this is why people come to yoga in the first place, to gain flexibility, increase stamina, improve balance, and get exercise. Rather than one-size-fits-all, bodymindheartyoga’s asana classes are offered in different levels, so that you are comfortable learning and practicing at a pace and level that works for you. All of the classes are taught in a slower, methodic way, where you’ll focus on alignment, technique, and getting in and out of poses safely. (This is not a vinyasa style.) Level 1 Ashaya Yoga- this ongoing class meets weekly and is recommended for new yoga students and/or students who want a basic practice. Each class is taught with a heart-centered theme that ties in to either the 5 Elements or other aspects of yoga philosophy. Classes begin with centering and warm ups, continue with Sun Salutations and standing poses, and then progress in a sequence to a “peak” pose in each class, followed by cool down, relaxing breath, and Savasana. More variations are offered in this class than in the Introduction course, and typically we focus on a different category of poses each month. Level 2 Ashaya Yoga- this is an Intermediate level class for students who have a minimum of 6 months of yoga experience, and who want to practice more challenging variations. This class regularly includes inversions such as headstand, shoulder stand, hand stand, and all the preps that go into doing them. More challenging back bends, forward bends, and arm balances are also practiced in this class. Gentle/Restorative Yoga- this class offers an even slower, more easeful sequence than the Level 1 classes. Designed to be friendly to your knees and wrists, this class does NOT include Sun Salutations, planks or downward dogs, and only a few poses from a table position. Gentler movement and stretching, supported standing poses, range of motion, and restorative poses are the focus of this class. Props such as chairs, pillows, straps, and blankets are great to make this class a rejuvenative experience. Ashaya Mixed Levels- this class is suitable for students at a basic, intermediate, or more advanced level. Different variations and options are offered for you to experience from wherever you are. Not recommended for brand new beginners, but if you’ve done some yoga before, don’t be afraid to give this class a try.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>One of the main practices of Bhakti Yoga (the yoga of devotional love) is Kirtan, which is chanting. During kirtan, the leader “calls” out a mantra, usually one of the names of the Divine, and the rest of the group repeats it back. In this call-and-response form, we exchange energy and raise our vibration to the powerful mantras.       <image:caption>A rich part of the yoga tradition revolves around rituals, mantra, mythology, and devotion. In order to honor the Indian traditions and culture from which Yoga originates, it’s important to learn about these beliefs and practices, even though you don’t have to adhere to them. In classes, Cheryl will often talk about Shiva and Shakti (the God and Goddess), or tell bits of the “creation” stories of the Universe. While Yoga is not a religion, and can be practiced by people of any (or no) religion, we learn a little bit about Hindu religion and perspectives as part of our study, as a cultural backdrop to yoga in America. In this way, our practice is not one of cultural appropriation, but one of cultural appreciation.</image:caption>
