Day 8: Observations. (31 days without sugar)

Hi there! I hope you had a great weekend. I had a few challenging moments over the weekend, for sure!

Over this first week of sugarless-ness, I’ve noticed a few things.

  • I’m hungry a LOT. I’m waking up hungry, and getting hungry in the evenings, after dinner. But I honestly don’t think that these are true sensations of hunger. I think that in the morning, I’m just jonesing for a cup of sweet coffee. I’m still waking up with a little bit of a headache each day, but it goes away with my little jolt of (unsweetened) decaf coffee or tea. The evening sensation of hunger is weird to me, because I don’t usually eat after dinner, besides the occasional “popcorn and a movie” night. So I think my body is still trying to figure out what’s going on, and maybe these sensations are the sugar cravings playing themselves out. If I eat a handful of nuts in the evening, it doesn’t feel like enough (whereas before my sugar detox, a handful of nuts during the day would be plenty to hold me off until the next meal.) Maybe to make up for the sugar calories I’d normally be ingesting, I need to eat a bit more during the day. I’ll keep observing and playing around with this.

  • I have more stamina. I’m not getting tired in the late afternoon, and I don’t feel tired when I wake up in the morning. I LOVE this!

  • I definitely have a serious chocolate habit. This week, I’ve been limiting myself to one square of very dark chocolate per day- even some 100% chocolate that we got (which at first tasted terrible, but my taste buds adjusted over the week). But we finished the bar on Friday, and there was none left over the weekend. I really missed it! So, yesterday, I ordered some more. (www.paschachocolate.com)

  • I’m looking forward to this second week!

What are you observing about yourself on this journey? Post a comment, or reply to this email!

Hugs, Cheryl
